I was born during the war in Vietnam and emigrated to Canada with my parents, brothers and sisters. We had a hard life with the on-going war but it was nothing comparing to the resulting chaos after the communist takeover of South Vietnam. We came to Canada while my sister was continuing her study in the USA. Thus, we all had to work in odd jobs while brushing up on our English. I eventually went to study Sciences at the University of Waterloo. I worked during my university co-op terms in Timmins, Mississauga, Belleville, etc. My family have lived in Leaside for the past 14 years.
I’m so grateful to live and work in Canada, a country where all Canadians have bountiful opportunities to be all they can be thanks to the hardworking Canadians and the leaderships of past and current politicians. I want to run for City Councillor because I love my community and I want to contribute my part to the country I have chosen to make it my forever home.
I possess a sharp eye for detail. I work well under pressure, strong interpersonal skills and work with a wide variety of people. Running as a non-incumbent, there may be advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantage may be that I am not known by some of constituents as the incumbents. I am the underdog, however, in my daily life, I have participated in community activities through Toronto Community Living (helping people with intellectual disability, Royal Canadian Legion to distribute poppies to help our veterans, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment as 50/50 ticket sale volunteer, etc. some of which I listed in my LinkedIn profile (https://www.linkedin.com/in/minh-le-269754107/). I believe that all those transferable skills in my professional life can help me to be an effective councilor to carry out the agenda that I would like to bring to city hall to serve my Leaside Ward constituents.
Outside of the office, I spend time with my family and enjoy volunteering in my community and I love gardening in my spare time. My family is my priority and I would like to take this opportunity to thank my daughter and my niece for walking with me through this journey. They have been an amazing force in my life, giving me the energy and courage to step up.
